TOFU BALLS IN TERIYAKI SAUCE
INGREDIENTS for tofu balls
300 gms tofu, grated or mashed
½ carrot, chopped fine
½ onion, chopped fine
1 tbsp cabbage, chopped fine
3-4 Mushrooms, chopped
¼ Red bell pepper, chopped
¼ green bell pepper, chopped
1-2 Green chillies, chopped
Veg stock powder ( optional)
Spring onion, chopped
5-6 tsp of tapioca starch, potato starch or cornflour
1-2 tsp of black pepper
Salt
1-2 tsp of soya sauce
Oil for deep frying
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix together all the ingredients well
Take 1-1.5 tsp of the mix and shape it into a ball by pressing it firmly in your hand
Add a little more flour if your mix is wet
Make all balls and set them aside
Heat oil in a pan
Fry the tofu balls until golden on all sides. It should take around 10 minutes
Remove, drain and keep aside to use later
INGREDIENTS OF TERIYAKI SAUCE
½ cup soya sauce
½ cup Mirin
½ cup sake( optional)
sugar
honey
Garlic
Ginger
Chilli flakes
1 chilli
½ tsp Miso paste
Cornflour
oil
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat oil
Add ginger garlic, green chilli and chilli flakes
Add the mirin, sake and soya sauce
Simmer for 1-2 minutes
Add miso paste and sugar
Add honey
Adjust seasoning
That it, your Easy Teriyaki Sauce is ready
LET'S PUT IT ALL TOGETHER
In the same pan of teriyaki sauce add the tofu balls and toss or pour the teriyaki sauce over the tofu balls
Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onion
Serve hot with blanched broccoli and steamed Japanese rice
