DAL TADKA August 6, 2020 Shilpa Anand INGREDIENTS: ¼ cup arhar dal (Tuvar dal)¼ cup red Masoor dal1-2 tbsp Chana dalSalt to taste¼ tsp turmeric powderINSTRUCTIONSWash and soak dals for 30 to 40 mins Pressure cook the dals with salt and turmeric powder for 2-3 whistles.Cool and keep aside INGREDIENTS TO PREPARE THE DAL 2-3 tbsp oil or ghee1 tbsp cumin seeds1medium onion, chopped1-2 tomatoes, chopped5-6 garlic cloves, paste2-3 inch ginger, paste1-2 tsp hot chili powder1tsp Shilpa’s Masala Mill. Kashmiri chilli powder1-2 tsp coriander powderCoriander leaves, choppedINSTRUCTIONSHeat oil in kadhai ( pot)Add the cumin and let it splutterAdd ginger and garlic. Fry for 1minAdd onions and fry until goldenAdd tomatoes and continue to fry until tomatoes are soft and oil is visible on the sidesAdd chili powders and coriander powder Fry for 1 minAdd the cooked dal Mix well and simmer for 3-5 minsAdjust seasoning if required Add coriander leaves and switch off the gasTEMPER 2-3 tbsp ghee ( can use oil)½ tsp cumin seeds2-3 dry red Kashmiri chilies½ finely sliced onion½ tsp garam masalaPinch of hing1-2 tsp red chili powderCoriander leavesINSTRUCTIONSHeat ghee in a pan Add cumin seeds and let them splutterAdd hing and onionsAdd dry red chilies Now fry this on a med-low flame until onions turn brown ( fried )Add the red chili powder and little coriander leaves Switch off the gas and pour this Tadka on the dalGarnish with coriander leaves and a little garam masala That’s it, your restaurant style Dal Tadka is ready Enjoy with butter naans, tandoori Rotis or rice SPICE LEVEL: 🌶🌶
